Airfares from USA to Europe Rise with Fuel Costs

An analysis for USA TODAY of ticket sales through Sabre, the world's largest distribution system, shows that the average price paid through Jan. 31 for U.S.-Europe air travel in April or May was 6.9% higher than during the comparable periods in 2007.

The analysis looked at round-trip sales regardless of fare categories.

Travelers are paying those higher prices despite a 10.3% expansion of trans-Atlantic flying capacity by the airlines. Typically, when the supply of a product rises, prices rise little, if at all.

Delta Air Lines, which has more service across the Atlantic than any other U.S. carrier, increased trans-Atlantic capacity 15.5% over the past year. The airline, for example, added several routes linking its Atlanta base to Vienna, Prague and other European cities.

GNU and FSF News for February 2008

For the latest updates see the FSF upcoming events page.

This monthly news summary about the Free Software Foundation and GNU project was distilled down from FSF press releases, blogs, email lists, and website news pages. The idea is to provide a concise summary of FSF/GNU news from the past month for those who don't have the time or interest to find and read all the original news sources within that community. This is a news summary about the FSF but it is not produced by or associated with the FSF in any way.

I'm looking for a volunteer to take over writing this news summary each month. It's a minimal amount of work, taking no more than a few hours per month.

Again thanks for a great summary!, posted 25 Feb 2008 at 18:29 UTC by atai » (Journeyer) I don't think anyone can do as a good job as you...

The vote count turned against the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, a Luo who also has broad support among the Kalenjin majority in the Rift Valley, in suspicious circumstances.

But Magure and other Kikuyu from the town who are now refugees in a stadium in Nakuru, the area's major town 26 miles to the south, said the election dispute was a pretext and that the assault on them was a planned move driven by long-standing enmity from the Kalenjin that amounts to ethnic cleansing. She named Chelelgo and another councillor, Charles Koskei, as among those responsible.

"We got the threats that we have to leave that place even during the election campaign. They said we are Kikuyu, we don't belong there. It was the Kalenjin youths but it was also the politicians, these councillors and chiefs.

Obama's victories draw more voter groups as Democrats waver

I noticed that she had fewer wrinkles in her face last night. I commend her make-up artist. I want to point out how horrible a women candidate she is. She stuck by Bill when most women would not have. She played the game last night with the make-up to look and appear not tired to more of a younger voter. More importantly was the situation where the media is now favoring Obama. Shame on them. I understand the media loves a good story. Right now Obama sells. I will say this, Mr. Obama will lead, but hopefully by the way he runs his campaign, not like the old vanguard of the the American Political Process. I think it is important to have strong candidates that can take America out of the old garbage politics to, perhaps, the world stage of respectable debate. Mr. Obama is a leader that can lead with discussion.
